OUR BREEDS
We focus primarily on breeding Pembroke Welsh Corgis and Cardigan Welsh Corgis. We have many clients ask questions about these breeds. Here, we hope to help answer some of those questions for you!
Pembroke Welsh Corgi
The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a distinct and ancient breed with a Corgi you get the best of everything! The intelligence and agility of the herding breed, the gentle, sweet nature of the Pembroke, plus the hardy constitution and longevity that Corgis are known for! We currently raise both Pembroke Welsh Corgis and Cardigan Welsh Corgis in both standard and miniature sizes.
Coat:
Our Corgi puppies have a dense, double coat that can range from medium to long in length depending on the individual pup and parents used. Our Corgis do shed, particularly during seasonal changes, so regular grooming is a must.
The Corgi coat will require frequent brushing to manage shedding and keep it looking its best. As a double coated breed, a Corgi’s coat should never be shaved as this can permanently damage the coat and affect their ability to regulate body temperature. We recommend daily brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks to keep their coat healthy and tangle free. Our recommended grooming products are listed here.
Appearance:
Our one of a kind Corgi puppies come in a variety of colors such as Red, Sable, Tricolor, and Fawn.
Size:
Our Pembroke Welsh Corgis generally range from 10-12 inches at the shoulder and can weigh between 25-30 pounds. Our Cardigan Welsh Corgis generally range from 10-13 inches at the shoulder and can weigh between 25-38 pounds. Females tend to be smaller than males.
Temperament:
Corgi puppies are incredibly intelligent and eager to please, though they can have a stubborn streak at times given their herding instincts. Training must be done with rewards, firmness, patience and consistency. Basic training should start as soon as you take your Corgi puppy home. You can click here for our recommended training.
Training:
Corgis are loyal, mellow, and loveable with all the qualities we want! They make great family dogs and generally do well with kids of all ages. Their friendly and affectionate demeanor will make for a great service/therapy candidate or simply a wonderful family dog
Activity:
The Corgi is an easygoing and social breed who will need daily walks and exercise. As a herding breed, they will require plenty of mental stimulation to prevent boredom and destructive behavior in the home. They have a medium-high energy level and are perfect for those who enjoy outdoor activities, as well as those who prefer to lounge around the house after a good walk or play session.
